Without them, you risk burning out, becoming chronically ill, and losing touch with who you truly are outside of your job title.


What Are Boundaries and Why Do They Matter?


At their core, boundaries are the limits you set to define how others can treat you, communicate with you, and behave around you. They protect your emotional, mental, and physical well-being while promoting respect in your relationships—both personal and professional.


For instance, think about that friend who constantly calls you late at night to vent about their problems. You care about this friend, but the late-night calls leave you exhausted and drained. Without a boundary, this pattern will continue indefinitely, chipping away at your energy and emotional reserves. A healthy boundary in this scenario might be, “I care about you, but I can’t take late-night calls during the week. Let’s talk during the day instead.”

Detach Your Self-Worth from Your Job: It’s easy to introduce yourself by your job title: “I’m a manager,” “I’m a lawyer,” or “I’m a teacher.” But these titles don’t fully encompass who you are as a person.
